Preliminary Task

Linguistic Analysis
By looking at my magazine I can see that I need to alter it quite a bit. To make it better I need to add assonance ,puns imperative verbs and personal pronouns to make sure that my magazine is interesting and will get enough attention from people to be a success. I have analysed my magazine underneath my mock up magazine. Some Linguistic devices I can use are:
- Assonance ;repetition of words with many vowels to give an illusion of rhyme e.g 'Fake Mates
- Ellipsis ;these miss out vital information from the sentence to create an immediate impact e.g Delicious cook ahead feast
-Personal Pronouns ;words such as 'you, your and you're' this makes the sentence more personal to the buyer e.g 'lose your belly'  
-Declaratives ;simple statements e.g 'cliff hanger!'
-Imperatives ;start with verbs to act like commands or instructions e.g 'Buy now'
-Interrogatives ;formed as questions to stimulate an immediate response from the reader which help them to subconsciously answer so they are involved in the magazine and have acknowledged it e.g 'what do you want'

By using these devices my magazine cover will be good quality and engage my target audience. By looking at these devices I can see what are used and how they are used in actual magazines. This will help me to adapt my ideas so my magazine will be worth higher marks.  


                                              
These are flat plans that I produced and they show the layout of my magazine and the contents page, it gives me a guide as to what to put on my magazine and how well it is structured. I've given more space and more of the page to more important features I did this because it would bring in more attention from the target audience where as tag lines and pugs can be smaller as they do not need as much attention.



The below pictures have been cropped and resized using Photoshop, by using this programme I could widen my knowledge and produce more realistic and professional. additionally, I edited the primary pictures using colour contrast and brightness, by doing this I could alter their colours and I decided to change it black and white. By using these skills and getting to grips with new technology it allows me to progress forward into my main task to produce a much better and realistic magazine. 








 My classmates and I took the time to capture these images so we could use them in our magazine covers and contents pages we used an SLR digital camera to capture the best images possible and for the best quality for the magazine cover. I used these images in my contents and magazine cover, I used them because they represent the school I am doing the magazine for and they will appeal to my target audience because the badge shows the school's identity this connotes unity within the school, by having a school magazine they are professional as a school as they let everyone know what is going on within the school and over the term. The barcode makes the magazine seem more realistic which is important as I want it to look as professional as possible. All of the images I picked were originally taken at the school premises which shows they are trustworthy and show what goes on here. By using these images and Photoshop I could edit them and alter the colour which made it look more appealing. The social links allow the target audience to widen as many people are using more technology and by hearing about the school and the magazine this way it increases the audience and makes the magazine look up to date and technological. Furthermore, I used an array of fonts different sizes and thickness so the audience could be attracted more to the story lines I wanted them to be. By doing this I could draw their attention, for example 'Loretta storms the stage' is the biggest sell line as it is the main story in the magazine and will attract more attention from the audience and links with the main image on the front cover. 


By looking at the flat plan I have a clear idea of how my magazine is going to be set out. You can clearly see the professional house colour scheme that carries through the magazine from the front page onto the contents page it would carry on unto the rest of the pages in the magazine to show synergy and it ensures the magazine matches and looks professional and friendly which catches the audience's eye. The contents page links with the magazine cover the way the boxes of cover lines are set and the colour scheme, I have used mostly the same colours and lay out but altered it slightly on each the contents and the front cover. The images used in the contents page and the front cover link to the sell lines, this gives the audience a clear idea on what the story is about and by using actual pupils the target audience may know the pupils and this will encourage them to but the magazine because they will want to read about their friends, family and people they know.
In addition to this, cover lines such as 'cook Halloween treats' are relevant as the issue is for Halloween which is upcoming. By learning how to use Photoshop helped me a lot as my magazine cover and contents page looks formal and professional with a modern and friendly approach. Using Photoshop I learnt how to crop, use the lasso tool and alter the contrast and brightness as well as the saturation. By doing this I could change the effects of the image and make it more suitable for my magazine, by altering the image I could also adapt it to fit in better with my magazine.

I really enjoyed looking through your preliminary task as I feel as if you have a very good understanding of the task set, you clearly understand how to use house styles as you used them in a very good design for your front cover and contents page Your magazine also has a clear identity due to the badge that you have added to your pages it is also very good this you have included relevant pictures and social media badges and their sites handles.
