Research and Planning Preliminary Task

In media for my exam I have to create a school magazine and a music magazine with all of the codes and conventions including contents pages to a good standard. To ensure I produce a piece of work to a good standard I have researched magazines by looking at what I think is good, and viewing actual magazines I will get an idea of what looks good for my exam. Additionally I will have the correct codes and conventions and media terminology to get the best grade I can, so looking at published magazines is a must. This is a good way to do research because I can look at their faults to ensure I don't do the same things that the publisher did, I can also be original and put a twist on is so its personal to me.

For an extra piece of research I took a questionnaire and asked the target audience questions, this helped me get the best idea about what they want and what they would be interested in.  This also gave me good ideas about what to include in my magazines and the preferred codes and conventions for my future magazine.

By looking at these results I can see what my audience think of my magazine and by giving it to a varied amount of people it is less biased. I have put the answers into a graph form to make it easier to understand and to see what would look good in my magazine so that people buy it and its a success.

By looking at the details of these results I can now see what the target audience prefer and put it into practice, this influenced my decisions to ensure I made the best magazine possible e.g 20-24 pages long.

 Linguistic analysis
Below is a 'mock up' of my magazine cover, I did this using images provided by the institution I have made this using the codes and conventions in which I learnt about as well as the information found in the questionnaire.
By looking at my magazine I can see that I need to alter it quite a bit. To make it better I need to add assonance ,puns imperative verbs and personal pronouns to make sure that my magazine is interesting and will get enough attention from people to be a success. I have analysed my magazine underneath my mock up magazine. Some Linguistic devices I can use are:
- Assonance ;repetition of words with many vowels to give an illusion of rhyme e.g 'Fake Mates
- Ellipsis ;these miss out vital information from the sentence to create an immediate impact e.g Delicious cook ahead feast
-Personal Pronouns ;words such as 'you, your and you're' this makes the sentence more personal to the buyer e.g 'lose your belly'
-Declaratives ;simple statements e.g 'cliff hanger!'
-Imperatives ;start with verbs to act like commands or instructions e.g 'Buy now'
-Interrogatives ;formed as questions to stimulate an immediate response from the reader which help them to subconsciously answer so they are involved in the magazine and have acknowledged it e.g 'what do you want'

By using these devices my magazine cover will be good quality and engage my target audience. By looking at these devices I can see what are used and how they are used in actual magazines. This will help me to adapt my ideas so my magazine will be worth higher marks.

This is my first mock up magazine, it is evident that I need to improve and increase my knowledge of magazines to produce a better magazine next time. To improve this I can include many more codes and conventions of a magazine such as; Pugs, cover lines , images that are relevant to stories, dates and issue numbers. By including this then I will achieve a higher grade as my magazine will look much ore professional.
